Home Management Binder: Schedules

Update: this post now contains links to download the printables shown here.  To see all my free printables available for download go here.

Welcome back to the Home Management Binder Series!  Last week I gave all of you a quick peek at all the sections I'm planning for my own home management binder.  For those of you who missed the introduction, here is a quick rundown of the schedule for this series.

8/31 - Schedules
9/7 - Family
9/14 - Pets
9/21 - School
9/28 - Cleaning postponed
10/5 - Home
10/12 - Finances
11/2 - Beauty
11/16 - Vehicle

Feel free to follow along (or jump in and out depending on your needs) and make your own Home Management Binder as I whip mine into shape!  Many of the organizational tools and tips you''l see here can be used in other types of home management systems as well, if binders aren't your thing.

Today we will be focusing on the Schedules section.  Many families use some sort of scheduling tool to help them run their lives as smoothly as possible.  This area is extremely important to make sure everyone in your home is where they're supposed to be, when they're supposed to be.  I anticipate needing to use this section daily, so I placed it in the very front of the binder for ease of access.

The very first page in this schedules section is a yearly calendar.  I plan to mostly use this as a reference for dates, and won't be using it for any actual scheduling.  I just believe it's helpful to be able to look ahead to future months to see what date falls on which day of the week.

I specifically made this calendar very editable, so I can use it for years to come.  The year at the top will be very easy to simply change in the document before I print it out each year.  The individual dates are handwritten, so I'll just fill out the calendar once a year when I print it out.

After the yearly calendar, I have a monthly calendar printed for each month.  Since I'm starting my binder late in the year, I only printed September through December.  Starting next year, I'll have all 12 months printed and ready to go for the year ahead.

Again I hand wrote the dates so the calendars are easily transferable each year.  I plan on using these calendars for larger events, such as doctor/vet appointments, holidays, or any other big dates we need to remember.  I currently have Melissa and my school schedules on there.  I will also be adding in Melissa's work schedule, so I can see on a basic level how busy each day or week looks.  I left out the times for these activities to save space, and also because they will be available on the following page.

After each monthly calendar I have 4-6 weekly planners (depending on how many are needed for that month).  Here is where I will write in more detail the week's activities and events.  There will also be room for smaller scale things, such as our social plans for the weekend or any errands we need to run.

This particular calendar will mostly be used to see what the upcoming week will look like.  At the beginning of each week, I will transfer any events from the monthly calendar onto the weekly calendar.  I will also include any other plans or activities or goals that I had wanted to accomplish in the coming week.  Having everything written down in one place instead of jumbled up in my head will hopefully take the stress out of daily life, instead of trying to remember every last thing I had wanted to do.

The final page I have included in my Schedules section is a daily planner.  Since I am a perfectionist, I have high hopes of using this every day.  The realist in me however, knows that this will never happen.  So as life happens, I will probably try to use these pages on days where it is needed the most.

There are currently 7 of these bad boys waiting behind next week's 'week at a glance' page.  In the top box I have a timed schedule for me to write out any engagements I have, such as class.  The first box on the bottom has listed my 'daily to-dos'.  These include any chores I need to get done every day such as making the bed, feeding and walking the puppy or taking my vitamins.  I left a couple lines blank, so I can add more 'daily to-dos' as I go through my day and remember any I forgot.

The middle box on the bottom is a place I can write any 'to-dos' I want to get done that day, such as a specific homework assignment or errand I need to run.  The bottom right box is a plain notes section.  I'll probably use this place to jot down reminders for myself or anything I want to know for that day.

Well, there you have my Schedule section of my Home Management Binder!  There are a few more things I plan to add to this section that I'm waiting on.  For example, I plan to have a copy of my cleaning schedule up here to reference, but I'm waiting to make one until I make-over my Cleaning section.  I will be sure to keep you updated on whatever else I decide to add in here!

Next week I will be covering the Family Section of my Home Management Binder.  This is an area for me to keep all information relating to a specific family member, in my case Melissa or me.  I have big plans and can't wait to share them with you all!

Until then, tell me about how you manage your home's schedule.  Do you have a wall calendar that handles all your family's plans?  Or maybe you have a portable planner, so you always know what's on the schedule no matter where you are?  Does anyone use electronic scheduling?  Who else has a binder system for their schedules?

Update 9-27-2012

I added a copy of both Melissa and my class schedules for easy reference when planning the week ahead.

Update 10-10-2012

I just added a copy of my 'Dates to Remember' page from my Family section.  This page shows all important dates that reoccur year after year, such as birthdays, anniversaries and major holidays.  I thought a copy of this could be useful when planning out the month ahead, so I remember all the important events that are coming up.

  1. I know this post is quite old but where can I find a copy of the week layout printable you use for the class schedules? That would be so helpful to me! Thank you!

    1. I did not share those on the download page since it wouldn't be customizable, and everyone has a different class schedule. I can add a blank version with just the days and times (and the classes can be added by hand) if that's something you would be interested in?
