Pinning Things Up

The other day, Melissa and I were blessed with a couple hours during which we were both home and had nothing that needed to be done.  Recently, we've been focusing our energy on getting things hung on the walls.  We have been slowly trying to figure out where to hang our various wall accessories, and hanging them up as they get an assigned home and we get the time.  So when we found ourselves with nothing to do, we decided to get the bulletin board hung up.


We had previously decided to hang the bulletin board over the dresser.  We recently did a minor rearrange of some of the smaller bedroom furniture, and the blank space above the dresser's new position was the prefect area for our bulletin board.

With our huge double window on that wall, we were left with very limited space to work with.  Of the wall items that still needed a home, the bulletin board just made the most sense to us.

It was a relatively simple process getting the board hung up.  It has two hooks coming out the top of the frame.  We first used a pencil to mark on the wall where we would need the screws to go.  After that we simply screwed the screws into the wall (careful not to screw them in to far) and hung the board on the screws.  We decided anchors were not necessary for this project because the bulletin board is pretty light.


So without further ado, the after pictures:

The bulletin board is the result of a high school project.  I simply hot glued a couple feather boas onto the wooden frame.  Then I used paint pens to color the ends of clear thumb tacks.  While hanging the board up, however, I decided I may want to finally redo this frame.  The boas have lost most of their color over time, and the top edge has turned a distinctly gray-pink from all the dust it has trapped over the years.

I also hope in the near future to change up the contents of the bulletin board.  Currently it houses a few decorative odds and ends that I wanted to display but that didn't quit earn a special spot of their own.  Right now the bulletin board is home to a couple drawings done for me by various friends, a personalized Hanukkah stocking made for me by my college roommate, a descriptive paper about my zodiac sign (Pisces) and a little curly cue bird I made by twirling paper (a fun craft I've been meaning to tackle again).  Some of these things I may incorporate into another form of decor, some may make their way into a memory box and the rest will probably get tossed.


Since the bulletin board is now near the desk, I hope to make it into a more productive station.  I haven't quite nailed down what I want from it, but I'm thinking something like schedules for the week or short-term to-dos list.  I'll be sure to keep you in the loop as I give a purpose to my bulletin board.
