We have all the bigger furniture in place where we want it, but we still had some smaller pieces meant for the bedroom that we still hadn't fit into the layout yet. Our bedroom bookshelf had taken up temporary residence in the dining room with the other bookshelves. Our bedside table had been temporarily reassigned as Melissa's computer desk after an unfortunate laptop-on-the-floor incident forced her to hook up a desktop monitor to her laptop. It was the epitome of class. But she was finally able to replace the laptop, and we got our bedside table back!
I finally got the motivation to fit all the bedroom furniture into the bedroom a little less than a month ago. Here is what the corner between the bed and desk looked like before I moved things around.
And here is the whole right side of the room. The dresser looks a little out of place, and like it was placed without much thought...which it was.
I knew I wanted the bedside table next to the bed, and there was no room on the other side. So the right of the bed was our only option. This would give Melissa the table, so I have a tentative plan to make a floating nightstand for my side of the bed. I got the idea from this one on Pinterest.

I would be the perfect size to fit between my side of the bed and the dressing table. But anyways, back to the project at hand.
Since the nightstand was going next to the bed, the dresser needed to be moved out of the way. I decided to move the dresser onto the piece of wall to the left of the desk. It was pretty much the perfect length and looked a little bare with nothing on it.
Since Melissa was at work when I tackled this, I had to slide the dresser into place all on my own. It isn't the heaviest piece of furniture, but attempting to slide a dresser with full drawers on a carpeted floor isn't the easiest task either. I didn't take out the drawers because this was supposed to be a "quick and easy rearrange." After about a million half inch pulls and shoves, I had the dresser where I wanted it and I could put the nightstand in its new home.

For now the nightstand just holds a lamp and a cellphone charging station I've been dying to get into functional use. With just those two things, the nightstand has a kind of bare, unfinished look.
I hope to spruce this area up, as well as the top of the dresser. I also have plans to hang some stuff on both of these walls. Last week I showed you that I hung up my DIY feather boa bulletin board over the dresser. I hope to use this for added functionality with the desk. The spot above the nightstand is reserved for my PB Teen style tile system which I'll share with you soon.

Now that I had the majority of my "big" rearrange complete, all I had to do was bring in the bookshelf from the dining room. I had thought about just leaving it somewhere else in the apartment, but since it's white, the bedroom was the only place it would really fit in. I found a nice little corner that hides behind the bedroom door and my closet door when they're open.
Normally I might just leave this space alone, it's a little controversial in my mind since both doors open into that corner. But I decided to go for it, just so I could get the bookshelf in the room. Once I had the nightstand moved into its place, I was left with my suitcases and laundry basket. In all honesty, I just moved these things into the area between the closets and in front of the mirror. I still have no idea where I'm going to store these. I had been thinking something like this for the laundry.

I may still end up doing this in the corner, but for now, the bookshelf will be taking up residence there.
This bookshelf is kind of a catch all for things without a designated spot. Eventually I'll get around to purging this whole thing, finding places for everything, then add some function and beauty to this bookshelf. I also may take the door stop out of the wall, because as you can tell its preventing the bookshelf from being fully backed on the wall. But those projects will have to be added to the never ending to do list!
Have any of you ever struggled to fit all your furniture into it's assigned room? Or have you recently taken baby steps towards your dream ideal for a space?
